I love hunting grouse in the woods this time of year because the snow makes the hunting that much more quiet. I do, however, like to keep track of my dogs and at this point shy away from the beepers in the woods because I like silence in the woods. It seems to make the woods that much prettier. At 67 years of age, my hearing is not what it used to be, so I have switched bells to the LCS Handmade Canadian Lo-Tone bell. These bells are also available in the snowbell version that allows the bell to chime without getting full of snow. These bells are not super loud, but they do have a low-tone that makes them easier to hear. My large Munsterlanders and my little English Setter, Annie, now go through the woods and I know where they are without making the woods sound like a semi backing up. Don't get me wrong, I still use the training collar with the beeper, but I use the beeper sparingly this time of year.
