Pheasants Forever Youth Hunt

October 26, 2017 2 min read

I had a very memorable hunt with my 14 year old son, Hunter recently. Pheasants Forever conducts a youth hunt annually to keep the sport alive and in front of our youth. Tim Rowan the Youth coordinator for this specific hunt takes great pride in his chapter North Central PA Chapter 630. Everyone was very welcoming and hospitable. When we arrived there was a booth with free food and beverages, a beautiful pheasant trailer where a volunteer taught your children how to properly clean their harvest, and each hunt was kicked off with a briefing by Tim around safety and respect for the dogs and their owners.

Hunter's hunt started at 7:30 am in the morning and Tim was our guide. We drove to Hunter's area and prepared for the hunt. Tim uses a Garmin Alpha GPS with a SportDOG beeper attached to each Garmin collar. It was nice to hear about the different Lion Country Supply products Tim uses to train and hunt with his dogs. We were also occupied by Kaitlyn Draa, a former youth hunter and now a proud bird dog owner herself. Tim was mentoring Kaitlyn and her dog during Hunter's hunt. Kaitlyn uses the LCS Bird Dog Trainer 800 for her training collar.

The hunt lastly about 45 minutes because Hunter harvested the first two pheasants the dogs pointed. He was extremely happy and over joyed with his hunt that now my 14 year old son will be getting his own German Shorthaired Pointer in a week. It was absolutely heartwarming to watch and listen to all the youth hunters share their stories from their hunts. They all had opportunities at birds and most were successful. I can't thank Chapter 630 Pheasants Forever for providing Hunter and I a memory that will last a life time. We are looking forward to next year already!
