quail_gripRecently LCS owner John Koritko showed me his "bird man's grip" on some quail he was planting for his pups. He used it as he transferred the birds from the bird cage to his bird bag and then again as he tucked them into some cover. It really doesn't matter which fingers you slide there legs between, use whichever you find the most natural. This grip allows you to use a very small amount of pressure to hold them if they struggle or try to fly and works well for smaller birds like quail, chukar or pigeons. Another tip is to use a good pair of gloves to minimize the amount of human scent you will inevitably transfer as you handle your training birds.
