During the summer months, my number one priority is keeping my dog comfortable. During the recent heat wave, I made the decision to purchase the LCS Kennel Sunscreen for my kennel at home. Installing the kennel sunscreen was quick and easy. Within a matter of minutes it was providing my kennel with the shade needed to keep my dog cool. The sunscreen is a mesh material that allows rain to drain through, and folds easily for winter storage. The LCS Kennel Sunscreen is available in different sizes. I was looking for a dog collar that would hold the color but not the dirt and smell.  I decided to give The Leather Feel Collar a try.  The collar is made of a rubber type material that is completely waterproof.

The collar stays supple when very cold similar to leather, and does not separate like the coated collars. With the large selection of colors I found it very easy to find just the right one for all of my dogs. I prefer the O-ring because it makes it easier for me to attach a lead. I chose the ¾” wide over 1” so the collar won’t make as much of a mark on the dog’s neck. I highly recommended this collar!

This system will easily hold quail, pigeons, and chuckars and the strong spring design launches them high. A really nice feature of the Universal Bird Launcher is the new adjustable spring tension design. It is great when you are working with young dogs that are being introduced to launchers for the first time. The spring tension can be minimized for an incredibly quiet launch and keeping the bird lower so a young dog has a chance to see it. Conversely, the spring can quickly be adjusted to a stronger setting that is great for experienced dogs or when the trap is in heavier cover and you need to have it clear.

I used the system with the LCS electronics (two-button transmitter and receiver) that are very reliable. It is important to remember that both electronic components are water resistant and not waterproof. Don’t leave your system out in the weather or use it in heavy, drenching rains.

The system is lightweight and easy to transport in your truck and into the field. The transmitters will allow you to program multiple launchers, which is handy as well. I like the price and as mentioned, the reliability of this system and highly recommend it.

The NEW Garmin DC40

We have taken a close look at the new Garmin Astro DC40 and wanted to share our first impressions with you.

The first thing you notice when picking up the new Garmin Astro DC40 is the collar strap design. The black nylon collar is gone, and replaced witha HiViz orange coated nylon collar strap. The great thing about the collar strap design is it can easily and inexpensively be changed to a different collar. Also, you will notice the small rectangular GPS receiver that is mounted on the collar strap of the DC30 is removed. The external GPS receiver now integrated inside the transmitter casing. Garmin has beefed up the durability of the transmitter casing. Having the receiver inside eliminates an internal wire that ran through the collar strap and a plug-in; which will certainly increase reliability of the system!

The Garmin Astro DC40 collar weighs about 8 ounces. Garmin has maintained the lightweight and low-profile design of previous collars. The VHF antenna on the collar is similar in design but no longer runs through a cuff on the collar strap. The antenna now is tacked to the collar with plastic connectors that look very reliable.

The Garmin Astro handheld remains exactly the same with one small but important change. There will now be a new setting that will allow the collar to transmit its location every two minutes to the handheld. This will result in the ability for the battery charge in the DC40 collar to last 48 hours when the two-minute update rate is selected.

Over the next few days we will be testing the Garmin Astro DC40 in the field, and will continue to post additional thoughts and field-test results.

It is important to note that we feel the DC30 is an excellent system that works very well. Now LCS customers have the option of purchasing the Garmin Astro DC30 from us at the sale price of $499, or pre-ordering the Garmin Astro DC40 at $599 for delivery sometime August 2010.

The Tick Nipper is an example of a simple tool that actually works!  Ticks of ALL sizes can removed without smashing or squeezing the tick body.  Any member of the family can safely remove ticks, including the head, without stress.

Lion Country has been carrying Under Armour for a couple seasons now. I purchased a few of the Under Armour HeatGear Tees in black as gifts. Everyone loved them. I’ve been told they keep them cool on the hottest of days.

My wife was always on me about keeping the kennel areas and surrounding yard completely clean at all times.  We all know that this is impossible to be carried out to perfection, but I tried my best.  Once in a while, the UPS delivery guy would step in a pile before I had done my daily chores.  Then, I would really hear the old lecture again.
Like many of us, I had always used a garden rake and a flat, long-handled shovel on “doo-doo patrol”.  I really got tired of poking myself in the gut with the rake handle and cracking myself on the head with the shovel handle!
I hated the whole job—every day.  Then, we got a new product in here at Lion Country Supply…the “Pooper-Scooper”.  I put one to the test ASAP.
The rake/shovel combo works great in the grass or gravel areas, and the scraper/shovel combo works best on concrete…won’t be without it.  No more lumps on my head (from either the shovel handle or my wife.)

I recently purchased the Bio Spot Flea & Tick Shampoo for my dogs.  Even in the winter, on warmer days the ticks are already starting to show up,  so I figured this would be a good way to help protect the dogs from fleas and ticks and get a good smelling dog in the process.   I was not disappointed. The dogs smell great and have a shiny coat and we have not had to remove any ticks.

Are you looking for mid weight water proof jacket?  If so I would highly
recommend the LCS Briar Proof Dog Training Jacket.  It’s is available
in brown or orange.  I have been wearing this jacket when running my beagles
and coonhounds and it is holding up wonderfully. The only sign of wear after two
years is a few snags here and there, but best of all my arms and chest are
not scratched at all!!
