The SportDOG Field Trainer SD425 uses the most advanced technology that SportDOG has ever built into its E-Collars, and packaged it up in the most compact system they have ever offered. Ideal for training in the yard, field or for hunting with close working dogs. The SD425 has a 500 yard range and can handle up to three dogs with additional collars. (purchased separately) The SD425 offers 7 levels of continuous or momentary stimulation plus tone or vibration. SportDOG improved on the previous SD400 by adding tone or vibration to the 2 & 3 dog modes. Completely waterproof and submersible to 25’, the palm sized transmitter and receiver only weigh a few ounces each. The transmitter is very comfortable to wear around your neck on the included lanyard, keeping it easily accessible for one handed operation.
SportDOG made this E-Collar very versatile with 7 transmitter modes and 2 collar modes. There are even modes to control the SportDOG remote Upland beeper or new SportDOG bird launcher, both sold separately. The receiver has a mode with normal stimulation levels for most dogs, plus a “mild” mode with lowered levels for more sensitive dogs. The SD-425 has lithium ion batteries in both the transmitter and receiver which charge in just two hours and last 50-70 hours per charge. It comes with both short and long contact points for different coat lengths.

"This past winter SportDog introduced the Field Trainer 425 as a replacement/upgrade of their Field Trainer 400 system. The new 425 is a medium range system that can be used with up to 3 dogs at the same time. The advertised range is 500 yards, and I was able to achieve that pretty easily even in an area where there were numerous obstacles to interfere with the signal.
The new 425 also includes some very nice improvements over the old 400 system. Most significant is the battery technology. The new 425 uses Lithium Ion batteries similar to the ones that are used in cell phones. They allow for a very quick charge time of 2 hours and also hold their charge longer. In using the collar every day, I find that I only need to charge it about once per week. Another upgrade that I really appreciate is the small size of the receiver. The new receiver is very small and only weighs 2.2 oz. It is small enough for my 14 pound Dachshund to wear it comfortably even though he has a very small neck that only measures about 11 inches." Can I attach a leash to the receiver collar?
Never attach a leash to the receiver collar. You may put a separate non-metallic collar on your dog’s neck and attach a leash. Be sure the extra collar does not interfere with the Contact Points.
Can I have correction and tone for multiple receivers?
The SD-1825, SD-1825CAMO, and SD-2500 will allow a tone only option for up to 2 dogs. After 2, correction will remain an option, but tone will not. All other systems will lose the tone option after adding multiple dogs. Correction will always be available.
Can I use the SportDOG Field Trainer System 425 on aggressive dogs?
We do not recommend any of our products to be used on aggressive dogs. We recommend you contact your local veterinarian or professional trainer to determine if your dog might be aggressive.
Can I use the SportDOG Field Trainer System 425 with more than one dog?
Yes, SportDOG™ Add-A-Dog® Collar Receivers must be purchased and the Remote Transmitter must be changed to mode 4. Please refer to the back cover of your manual for a list of compatible Collar Receivers.
Can my dog wear his tags on the training collar?
We recommend that tags be located on the top of the collar at the back of the dog's neck. Metal tags coming in contact with the probes will not drain the battery but could cause a short that could cause the batteries to drain prematurely or even cause the system to stop working.
Do I have to charge the transmitter and receiver at the same time?
No. The transmitter and the receiver can be charged separately if necessary.
How do I know if my collar is placed correctly on my dog?
You’ll need enough room to slip 2 fingers under the collar placed on the upper portion of your dog’s neck. The Collar Receiver should not be worn for more than 8 hours out of every 24-hour period. Your dog’s neck and the Contact Points must be washed weekly with a washcloth and mild hand soap, then rinsed thoroughly.
To ensure a proper fit, follow these steps:
1. With your dog standing, center the Collar Receiver where the Contact Points are underneath your dog’s neck, touching the skin. If your dog has a long or thick coat, trim the hair around the Contact Points to ensure consistent contact.
2. The Collar Receiver should fit snugly, yet loose enough to allow one finger to fit between the strap and your dog’s neck.
3. Allow your dog to wear the collar for several minutes, and then recheck the fit. Check the fit again as your dog becomes more comfortable wearing the Collar Receiver.
Does beeper work without the receiver being on the collar?
Yes, the beeper can work remotely without the receiver being on the collar.
After speaking with an EXTREMELY knowledgeable LCS staff member, I chose this collar for my 7 mo English Setter. It has performed flawlessly, no matter the setting. Controls are very easy to use/adjust. Have recommended this collar to others. Cannot go wrong with LCS!!!
Great Bargain Trainer
After careful consideration I decided to go with this collar because the price was in my range. I dont regret it one bit and have recommended the collar to some of my friends who are just starting out with their dogs.

Very nice for the money
This is a very nice collar for the price. Very simple and easy to use and charge. I use it for training my Springer Spaniel. I have had it for 1 yr. Holds a charge well. Works with no problem while used for water training. Im glad I purchased this collar.
Great for Beginners
I was at my wits end when I got my first bird dog who had a stubborn streak. I called LCS and the rep recommended a SportDog 425 Field Trainer. Best thing I ever got to help train the dog. The unit does not have the bells and whistles of other e-collars but it works great. It has a tone button and two other buttons and a dial to set the exact amount of correction necessary. One button is set as instantaneous and the other is set to continuous up to 8 seconds. I reset mine so that they are both continuous but the second button goes up two degrees in the amount of correction applied. I always have the collar on the dog but I seldom need to use it now. And I found the service is great. After working flawlessly for a few years I called SportDog about a problem. It could have been my fault in changing the settings but without question SportDog mailed a replacement to me. I would not hesitate to buy another product from such a customer oriented company. This unit is not as powerful or full featured as other e-collars but if you are looking for a basic training tool at a good price then call LCS and get the SportDog 425 Field Trainer.
