Canvas bumpers are the go-to tool for retriever training and are used from the beginning puppy in the yard through advanced long marks, blind retrieves, lining and casting drills in the field and pond. Stout 10 oz. canvas over a closed-cell foam body and center weighted core can be used on land or floats in water. Four sizes available:
Puppy 2 in. wide x 9 in. long – small, easy to hold and carry, watch how natural little retrievers will just pick them up in the yard or off the floor of the house and tote them around. Made for that first game of fetch. Supervise the pup with the canvas dummy to prevent chewing of the training aid.
Intermediate 2 ½ in. wide x 10 in. long – the next step up, perfect for working with younger dogs in the yard and field. Simulates a chukar or grouse-sized body.
Regular 3 in. wide x 12 in. long – the standard size training aid for preparing dogs to retrieve bumpers from the water in the NAVHDA Natural Ability test, or ducks and pheasants in the wild.
Goose 4 in. wide x 15 in. long – the largest of the canvas dummies for practicing retrieves of geese.
Please also select between two colors: Orange and White. White dummies are easy for the dogs to see and are good to use with a beginning dog. Orange dummies are more challenging for the dogs to see, making them use their nose if the dummy is scented, or simply work harder for that sight retrieve if the dummy is unscented.
I have had several of these, in both puppy and regular sizes, to train three different versatile hunting dogs over 6 years. They last a long time, throw easily, float well, and hold up in all kinds of terrain and brush. They do absorb scents well, too.
